A relatively new team found in 1973 after Independente and Atletico Chapecoense merged to form Associacao Chapecoense de Futebol or commonly known as Chapecoense, has recently grabbed the headlines. This Brazilian league team was an unknown entity till 2016 when an unfortunate plane crash killed their hopes of winning the Copa Sudamericana, which would have been their first major trophy.
