United States win the Presidents Cup trophy

The United States were in a commanding position over the International team coming into the final day. The US President Donald Trump was in New Jersey to watch over the play before he handed the trophy. Steve Stricker’s side won the 10 of the 12 editions of the tournament, but Nick Price’s showed some fight on the final day. Phil Mickelson who was playing in his 23rd consecutive team USA event continued with his superb form as he brought an end to the play after a 2&1 victory over Adam Hadwin. In the end, 19-11 sounded like a convincing victory as Sticker celebrated with assistant captain Tiger Woods. The tournament will next take place in 2019 at Royal Melbourne in Australia. This should inspire the International team as their only victory came at Royal Melbourne in 1998.

Paul Dunne emerges victorious at the British Masters

The young Irishman produced a stunning round to upset Rory McIlroy to win his first ever European Tour title. It wasn’t going to be easy to keep his nerve in front of a record crowd at Close House, but Dunne had other plans. Mcllroy was piling up pressure on the youngster as he responded with five birdies on the 11th, but Dunne showed great character over the closing holes. His short-game played a vital role as he started with an opening birdie, almost repeating at the second and just as time passed he was inches away from victory in the fifth. It was phenomenal from Dunne who went down to Eduardo Molinari last April in a playoff in Morocco but managed to chip in with his seventh birdie of the round to be victorious on 20-under par. Mcllroy had no choice but to settle for the second position but it was a battle worth watching.
