Other players in the tournament who made it to the third round in the men category include; Kei Nishikori, Dominic Thiem, Juan Martin del Porto, Paolo Lorenzi, Stan Wawrinka, David Ferrer, Nick Kyrgios, Joao Sousa Ivo Karlovic among others.

In a match played under the roof at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Andy Murray overcame the Spaniard with three straight set wins. Of great importance to the Briton is that he proceeded to the third round with no bruise or injury; this is a great plus to Murray as full match fitness will be key to his quest to reach the finals and even win the tournament. In the second round match against Marcel Granollers, Andy Murray showed a mix of experience, skill and talent as he edged out the Spaniard in all the three sets. A couple of mistakes committed by Granollers especially in the second set gave Murray an upper hand in the game. Andy Murray is now one of the tournament’s favourites after displaying a repeat of sparkling performance he had against Lukas Rosol.
Kyle Edmund has been quite a revelation in this tournament in the first open round he stunned the French Richard Gasquet ranked no. 15 with three straight sets win of 6-2, 6-2,6-3. In this match, Edmund, 21, produced one of the best performances of his career as outshined the experienced Frenchman throughout the match. The emphatic 6-3 comeback in the third set when he overturned Gasquet’s 3-1 lead was the major highlight of the match. In the second round, he easily outclassed Ernesto Escobedo in three straight sets win.
