It is no secret that Mourinho likes physical presence in his team and at United, he has now surrounded players with some very good physical attributes. With the likes of Pogba, Lukaku, Zlatan, Matic, Fellaini, Bailly, Valencia and others, there is a lot of strength and height available on the pitch. It is an important factor when it comes to the Champions League and as Mourinho had shown against Ajax in the Europa League final, that physical attributes can make a substantial difference in a game.
Paul Pogba unleashed
Last season the Frenchman was severely criticized for not performing as to what was expected of him and it had more to do with the team setup and the players around him. The presence of Matic has allowed Pogba to totally express himself and it is visible on the pitch. Pogba has been in the goal scoring charts already twice this season and also bagged a few assists. With this setup, it will be very helpful for United in Europe to fight the bigger teams and hopefully do some serious damage through Paul Pogba.
Solidity at the back
With any Jose Mourinho side we can be assured that they will do well defensively. With the addition of Lindelof and Matic to the squad, United have only strengthen at the back. United have looked sound and stable at the back and especially with David De Gea between the sticks, it only provides more solidity at the back. This can be very effective in the latter stages of the Champions League to grind out important results.
Mourinho’s second season
We all know how brutally effective and successful Mourinho is in his second club in any of the clubs he has managed till date. May it be at Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid or any other club, Mourinho has always figured out a way to bring success in the second season. He now looks thorough with what he wants to do at United and with the set of players available at his disposal, one can surely not rule out United to win the Champions League.
Deadly attacking options
One may say that United lack a quality winger and while that is true, United still have enough firepower to do some serious damage in Europe. With Lukaku and Ibrahimovic upfront, United can be very brutal in front of the goal. Mkhitaryan, Mata and Pogba can all chip in with their huge talent of creativity. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are some dangerous options on the wings as they can both create and score goals. United have lethal attacking options to change the game around, which will be very important in the Champions League.
